“The Hunter team is thrilled to announce that Chris Nassetta of Hilton will join us for this ever-popular event at the conference. The Bharat Shah Leadership Speaker Series continues to provide captivated audiences a uniquely intimate conversation with our industry leaders that is both authentic and deeply moving.” – Lee Hunter, Conference Chair and Chief Operating Officer, Hunter Hotel Advisors.
As a college student, Mr. Nassetta spent his summers working in hotels – cleaning rooms, carrying bags and plunging toilets. Nearly thirty-five years later, he is still working in the same industry. Since taking the helm at Hilton – the second-largest lodging company in the world, with more than 5,500 hotels in 109 countries – more than a decade ago, Nassetta has led Hilton through enormous change and growth in the travel and tourism industry, from the global recession to the rise of the sharing economy.
The Bharat Shah Leadership Speaker Series was established at Georgia State’s Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality, in the Robinson College of Business, by Dr. Bharat Shah, a highly-respected and well-renowned leader and philanthropist.
An immigrant to the United States, Dr. Shah’s vision for this series was to share the intimate personal stories of our lodging and hospitality icons whose diverse journeys of struggle, failure, perseverance, commitment and faith have emboldened their pursuit of the American Dream. The series has served as an inspiration to all members of the hospitality industry but particularly to our hospitality students, the future leaders of our industry.
Bharat’s son, Mit Shah, is the CEO of Noble Investment Group and over the years, has brought us into the living room for candid conversations with his father, Mark Elliott, President of Hodges, Ward, Elliott, Mark Hoplamazian, CEO of Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Tom Baltimore, Chairman and CEO of Park Hotels and Resorts and Arne Sorenson, President and CEO of Marriott International.
