The HUNTER Award for Excellence and Inspiration was created to celebrate hoteliers who exemplify exceptional leadership, citizenship, and innovation. Each year, HUNTER presents the award to one such individual at the HUNTER Conference.
Founder and Chair, Castell Project
Peggy Berg chairs the Castell Project, a non-profit dedicated to advancing female leaders in the hospitality industry. Under Peggy’s guidance, Castell provides leadership development for women, benchmarks the status of women in hospitality, supports women in university hospitality programs, promotes women on the podium, and facilitates women on the path to hotel ownership. Peggy is the 2022 honoree of the Hunter Conference Award for Excellence and Inspiration. She has owned and operated hotels as a franchisee of Hilton and Choice. Peggy is a founder of the International Society of Hospitality Consultants and is well-known for her innovative consulting work.
Vice President & Global Head, Tru by Hilton
As Vice President & Global Head of Tru by Hilton, Talene Lanuza Staab serves as the chief strategist and champion of the fastest hotel brand to launch in industry history. A seasoned hospitality leader with more than 25 years of experience with Hilton, Staab is responsible for driving Tru by Hilton’s product and service positioning, distribution strategies, and owner relations. Before this role, Staab served as Vice President of Owner Experience & Engagement. She also served as Senior Director of Brand Performance & Support for Canopy by Hilton. Staab started her career at Hilton as the group sales manager for Embassy Suites San Diego - La Jolla before becoming the director of sales for the hotel. Staab credits her passion for hospitality to her parents’ restaurant in Boston, where everyone became a “regular” and home cooking was the specialty. Staab currently sits on the board of directors for the Castell Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing hospitality companies tools and support to accelerate the development of their high-potential women. Staab holds a bachelor’s degree in Hotel & Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire. She now resides in Northern Virginia with her husband Tony, daughter Arika, son Anthony, and Cairn Terrier Stewie.
